Welcome! Here’s a quick guide to getting started with social listening.

Agorapulse’s Listening feature allows you to capture key conversations on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. On YouTube, you can listen for YouTube handles, or words and phrases in video descriptions.

Are you ready to find these conversations (and the people behind them) that are important to your business? Open Agorapulse in another tab and follow along!

Listening to Twitter conversations

You can collect all public Twitter conversations containing words, phrases, or Twitter handles you specify.

Click the settings wheel to create or manage searches.

You’ll see we’ve already created a couple of searches for you – one to collect all mentions of your organization’s name (with or without the ‘@’ sign) and another to collect all mentions of your organization’s website.

Click ‘create a new search’ to start collecting more conversations.

What words or phrases are important to your organization?

If you’re conducting a search to see who’s mentioning a product or service unique to you, put a check in this box. Agorapulse will then mark every person who mentions these words as an Ambassador in your Fans & Followers tab.

Create as many searches as you like and filter them by language and/or location to see who’s talking about the subjects that are important to your business.

And then watch the search results begin to populate in your Listening tab.

Listening on Instagram

Instagram profiles can view every public mention of their brand from the Listening tab. You can also create listening searches for Instagram posts containing hashtags.

NOTE: Instagram’s Terms of Service and API prevent 3rd party social media tools from responding to mentions or collecting individual user data (name & profile image) on listening searches.

Listening on Facebook

Want to see what people are saying about your brand on Facebook? Simply click on a Facebook page’s Listening tab. From here, you’ll see all public posts mentioning your brand.

Listening on YouTube

You can listen for words, phrases and YouTube handles to collect videos on the world’s second largest search engine. Define words to monitor and Agorapulse will collect all videos which have these words in their description.

Managing your Listening results

Sometimes, Listening searches work too well and collect too many conversations. The first check against collecting a bunch of white noise is the ‘ignore’ capability in the search itself.

You can ignore words, phrases, Twitter handles, Facebook names…etc.

The Inbox Assistant cleans up, organizes and manages your Listening search results for you. It can eliminate spam, review, assign, bookmark or label inbox items automatically. Here’s one example that’s commonly used around the world.

Click here to create a rule for your Inbox Assistant in another tab (we’ll guide you through each step).

Your Listening tabs contain all the same functionality you will find within your Inbox so you and your team can catch every conversation and collaborate efficiently.

Use the filters and drop down menus along the top to get to the right content fast. For instance, you can view the results of each of your Listening searches one at a time via the advanced filters.

Once you’ve reviewed your conversations, you can check them off your slate one-by-one or check off conversations in bulk.

Want to clean your entire slate at once? Click “Review All.”

You can assign any conversation to any member of your team with a custom note.

This video will walk you through your listening capabilities in 2 minutes.
